When the end credits began to roll, I was given a fleeting look by the people sitting next to me in the cinema. They were probably checking to see if I was still alive; such was my horror and, quite frankly, disbelief, I had not moved from the same position for at least an hour. A wide-opened mouth, bulging eyes and clenched fists on the armrests at my sides. No, I was not enamoured with the movie. No, I did not find the scenes of bondage shocking. I had simply lost the will to live. One might remember a famous novel by a famous author, `1984`. Until I walked out of that movie house, I didn`t know what had spurned Orwell`s mind in the creation of his dystopian society, but now I have a vague idea. Orwell wasn`t afraid of being stalked by the government - he was terrified that future society would become the way it is today. I`m not referring to high-octane sexual fantasies, because we all have our own desires and it`s not my place to judge. No, what Orwell envisaged, surely, is acting so terrible, movies so poorly made and producers so incompetent, that the likes of Hitchcock and Bogart are probably turning in their graves. With laughter. Fifty Shades of Grey is a mediocre work by a laughable author of FanFiction, meaning that without the abysmal Twilight series, the TRULY abysmal movie that I have suffered through today could not have existed. Someone get me a DeLorean and a Flux Capacitor; it`s time to right a few wrongs. There is only one sure-fire way to improve this catastrophe and that is, quite literally, with fire. Burn it. Burn it all to ash and spread the cinders across the resting ground of Cthulhu. Without this worthy sacrifice, surely the monster will rise up to wreak havoc upon us deserving mortals. All in all, I have only one recommendation for the people who will, inevitably, be dragged (ironic term, given the movie) to the cinema/theatre to watch this complete abomination: therapy. Years and years of therapy. But avoid the groups. Once you see Mr. Grey`s `desires` for yourself, you`ll probably be afraid to stand in the same room as another human being for, oh, several hundred millennia. And there`s worse to come: rumours talk of a trilogy, to keep things up to speed with the `books`. What`s that sound? Oh, it`s just the splatter of the blood I`m currently weeping. I`m sure that`s unrelated... Right? Guys? Oh...

SYNOPSIS: When college senior Anastasia Steele steps in for her sick roommate to interview prominent businessman Christian Grey for their campus paper, little does she realize the path her life will take. Christian, as enigmatic as he is rich and powerful, finds himself strangely drawn to Ana, and she to him. Though sexually inexperienced, Ana plunges headlong into an affair -- and learns that Christian`s true sexual proclivities push the boundaries of pain and pleasure.

This is a very entertaining film to watch. Adam McKay was able to take what could be a fairly boring and drawn out story and made it into something quite enthralling. Unfortunately, although it`s well shot, pretty dang funny at times, and interesting, there are several issues that hold this film back from being the Oscar contender that it could have been. The pacing is odd and at times feels clunky with the flashbacks and different timelines, there were several scenes left in this film that could have been cut but weren`t which led to a much longer runtime than necessary, and some of the humor doesn`t necessarily come across as I think McKay intended it to. Further, the scene that plays right after the first line of credits made me cringe, and it left a bad taste in my mouth which ultimately hurt my viewing experience. In the end, the positives outweigh the negatives, but there was far more potential here than what we got.

The movie isn`t horrible but I would not recommend spending your hard earned money on it. The first 2/3 of the movie is boring and doesn`t capture the charm of the original Ocean reboot series with Clooney. I applaud Hollywood trying the all female thing, but it didn`t work. Majority of the acting wasn`t very good which didn`t help the movie. Rihanna can`t act, so Hollywood pleaae stop trying. Same with Mindy Khaling. This movie really is a poor rehash of the original Ocean 11 with Clooney. I wish Hollywood would get a little more creative than "same movie but with women".

SYNOPSIS: Ex-hitman John Wick comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him.

My only guide to this movie was IMDb ratings which I`m sorry to say but are either being used ONLY by people with very low standards for movies or are somehow rigged. I`m giving it 3 stars for whatever little entertainment value it had. Movie begins by showing a regular guy spending good time with his girl friend. But he is not really a regular guy, he is a legendary baddie who criminals tell each other about as their bed time horror stories. Mafia is so scared of him, they call him the "boogeyman". Yet, armed burglars get inside his house and take him by surprise without any resistance from him. But wait, he is a ghost, a shadow-man ... yet when he doesn`t have a gun, he might as well put on a t-shirt that says `piñata` because even lamers are beating the crap out of him all the time. But wait, he is fast, he is ruthless and he is on a revenge mission ... yet rivals keep slipping out of his hands, he can`t shoot anything unless the target somehow presents itself two feet from his pistol and he needs to be continually rescued by his only true friend who "our hero" doesn`t give a damn about. I think what failed this movie, for me, was the script. Period.

Until May 2008, the few releases this year that I`ve seen ranged from below average to downright rubbish with the exception of two movies. One being `Iron Man`. This is the movie we have been waiting for this year. So does it match up to expectations? Hell yes! On the surface, `Iron Man` isn`t very different from other superhero films but on the other hand it isn`t like any other superhero movie. This one has rich characters, it perfectly blends humour, drama, action and it has heart, all of which are presented on screen in a wonderful way that keeps the viewer staring at the screen right till the end. The writing is great as `Iron Man` sticks to the main story all the way. I liked how Downey Jr`s Tony Stark grows from this carefree business-minded tech-tycoon who`s only concern is Stark Industries to a man with a mission to save the world and in the process he still stays the same person as he maintains his sense of humour, his courage and his integrity. The dialogues, especially Starks`s one-liners are sharp, witty and funny. This movie is an introduction to the famous title character thus those expecting only action from start to end (like `Transformers`) may be disappointed to an extent. But for me there was enough action along with substance to make it a hugely enjoyable experience. Jon Favreau is proving to be a more versatile director and his impressive filmography, both as actor and director, prove that he`s experimented with different kinds of cinema. `Iron Man` wouldn`t have been an easy film to direct but Favreau does a magnificent job. The CGI is excellent as I loved how much attention was given to detail and how the viewer is shown every step of the making of Iron Man. Of course, there`s some humour added to lighten up the mood instead of technologically overloading the viewers. `Iron Man` is just the movie that Robert Downey Jr. needed and it couldn`t have come at a better time. At a time, when this talented actor`s performances were hardly getting enough notice, `Iron Man` brings him back to recognition. After seeing him, one would conclude that the part was made only for Downey Jr. His dialogue delivery seems so natural that it would be hard to tell whether he was acting, if the scenes were taken out of context. I don`t think Gwyneth Paltrow has ever looked better. Though the role does not allow her to really stretch her acting, Potts isn`t just a typical superhero`s dame. She is Tony`s confidant and the one who supports him through thick and thin. Paltrow provides the necessary charisma, sex appeal and soul that makes Pepper Potts shine and she shares a sizzling chemistry with her male lead. Terrence Howard has a smaller role as Tony`s good friend but there`s a hint that he might have a more prominent role if a sequel is made. Finally, there`s Jeff Bridges as the villain. An odd yet brilliant choice as the actor is refreshing and like his costar, he too needed an `Iron Man` to give his career a boost. I noticed that some people were complaining that Muslims/Middle Easterners were portrayed as bad guys just like in any other American movie but I would like to state that this is no `Vantage Point`. Here, these people weren`t portrayed as terrorists working on their own but as men hired for a specific reason (I won`t say more to give away spoilers). So I just thought to briefly clarify that this is no anti-Islamic or anti-anything (except, well okay, anti-weaponry) movie. It`s a movie for everyone. Perhaps the story itself isn`t anything novel which is what makes it somewhat similar to other superhero movies, but the treatment of it and its execution is quite unique. Add to that a fine cast and dazzling special effects among many things, this is the summer movie experience I`ve been waiting for in 2008. I wonder what else this summer has to offer as I doubt that it would succeed in providing anything close to the sheer entertainment of `Iron Man`.
